How We Plan to Pay
Our pay principle: we pay well for every hour of productive work. Personal time is not work, so it is not paid. Scripture says, “The laborer is worthy of his wages” (1 Timothy 5:18, NKJV). Fair pay for real work is how we honour that.
Not active yet. This is in the works.
The details below are an outline of the direction we're looking to model. They are not yet an offer, a policy in effect, or a commitment. Final pay, hours, and benefits will be confirmed in writing when we open applications.
Flexible schedules
Start and finish times, and days worked, are set with each employee and the job. Typical weeks range from about 38 to 66 hours. After-hours and second-shift work happens when a project needs it.
Planning target
Our planning target is 80 hours over each two-week period. It's a planning goal, not a guarantee of hours. More in one week and less in the next happens only when management agrees in advance.
Time tracking
Every hour is recorded on the Workforce time clock in actual minutes. Clock in when you start work on the tools at your site, and clock out for any other time away from work.
Meal period
A 30-minute meal period, uninterrupted, after no more than 5 consecutive hours of work. It may be split into two 15-minute breaks only with a written agreement. It's unpaid only when you're completely free of work and free to leave.
Personal time
Personal time, such as a bathroom break, personal call, or errand, is off the clock, with a 10-minute minimum off the clock for each personal break. If you're called back to work sooner, you clock in at that moment and are paid from then. Work calls, messages, and required availability are paid.
Travel
Your first site is the client project you're assigned to that day. The office and the shop are not first sites. Travel from home to the shop, or from home to your first site in your own vehicle, is not paid, whether you drive alone or with others. Rideshare is optional and never required. Passengers are not paid for the ride. The driver of a company truck driving from home to the first site is paid as if the trip started at the shop, and that time counts toward weekly hours. Travel the company requires, including driving a company vehicle or towing company equipment from the shop to a site or between sites, is paid for the whole trip.
Overtime
Until averaging is approved, overtime at 1.5 times your regular rate applies to hours over 44 in a workweek. After written approval by the Ontario Director of Employment Standards, it applies to hours over 88 in each approved two-week period.
Extended hours
No more than 48 hours in a workweek unless you sign a separate Extended Hours Consent. Declining is your choice and won't be penalized. You can withdraw consent on written notice.
Rest periods
At least 11 consecutive hours off between shifts, and at least 24 consecutive hours off each workweek.
Vacation pay
At least 4% vacation pay, as required by Ontario law.
Training
Paid training is available after your first 12 months, to help you grow into the next role.
Tools & boots
Not available in your first 12 months. Your anniversary is your start date. From your second anniversary on, you have a $350 boot and tool allowance in each 12-month purchasing year. It is reimbursed with receipts if you are still employed in the 12th month of that purchasing year. If you leave before then, you forfeit reimbursement for that year. Give us a copy of each receipt and keep the original. We claim only receipts for amounts we have reimbursed.
Specific rates are set per role and confirmed in writing with each offer.
